Danish Weapons Standart 1

Danish Weapons Standart 1
A guide to building sword to live roleplaying

By: Jesper Stein Sandal and Daniel Benjamin Clausen

Materials

To create a larp sword, you will need:
  • 1 pc. sleeping pad (preferably the cheap, green)
  • 1 pc. sharp utility knife
  • 2 pcs. bamboo sticks (5-8 mm diameter)
  • 1 roll of silver duct tape
  • Possibly. 1 roll double sided (carpet-) tape

Remembering Rules

Every time you make a live weapon, remember the following:
  • You must not use too much tape
  • Do not wrap tape
  • Do not use "tough tape (insulation and alutape)
  • Cut as accurately as possible after the template

1. Bamboo sticks
Cut bamboo sticks to the desired length (about 1 meter for 1 handet swods). Tape them then with either duct tape or brown, as illustrated.

2. Cutting
Cut 3 equal pieces out of the sleeping pad (for 1 handet swords 90 cm and width 8-9 cm is a good size). Shape and size can obviously be varied as desired. It's a good idea to first draw a template and use it for all three pieces.

3. The center piece
Cut a strip of one of the sleeping pad pieces as shown in the drawing.

4. Air Gaps (Optional)
Cut along the side and tip of the middle piece a series of "air pockets" of approx. 2 cm length and 3 mm wide to soften the sword.

5. The core
Attach bamboo sticks with either duct tape or double sided tape on both sides of the middle piece.

6. Collection
Now place the three pieces together with the middle piece in the middle. Remove the film from tape squeeze the layers together.
7. Edge (Optional)
If you want a "sharp" sword, you can gently with the hobby knife cut the two outer layers, as illustrated.

8. Edge
Keep the sword well together and put duct tape gently along the edge of the sword. For curves and spikes down vertical incision in the "flaps" to prevent unsightly folds.

9. Simplification
Carefully put the two lanes duct on each side along the blade and it's finished! Cut if necessary. excess duct tape away and smooth blade.
